I _sincerely_ hope that this stuff is written down somewhere.  It's such
a waste of brainpower to recreate these things every generation.  This
mode makes each generation stand on its predecessor's toes instead of
its predecessor's shoulders.

Also, like the teenager who discovers that his father learned one heck
of a lot between the time the teenager was 15 and the time he was 21, many of us
would be interested in some of the more subtle details of what our
predecessors did, because there may be additional wisdom there that
wasn't evident the first or second time we thought about the problem.
