I am pleased to announce the existence and limited
availability of an implementation of CMU Common Lisp
for the Intel x86 ISA and a port to FreeBSD 2.0.5.

This software is now in the alpha stage of development
and not suitable for general use; however, with the
exception of the inevitable bugs yet to be found and
the two non-features noted below, it represents
enough of the system to enable further development
by those without access to supported RISC workstations.

	Non-features:

	1. The garbage collector needs a major rewrite and has not
yet been ported. This will be hard.

	2. The debugger has been dumbed down a bit pending rework
of the call/return model. This should be easy.

I am hoping that a few seasoned Lisp hackers with suitably
configured FreeBSD systems will step forward to participate
in helping to make this the premier freely available
implementation of CLtL2 Lisp for the PC architecture.

Interested persons are invited to send E-mail to my
	home address shown below.
