I am looking for a nice (preferably free) environment in which to use
lisp on 486 machine running dos or windows. At a minimum this would
let me evaluate lisp forms within the editor, and balance parentheses.
Ideally, it would be like MCL on the Mac.

I am reasonably happy running xlispstat as a subprocess of emacs, but
I have heard that emacs under windows can not have subprocesses. I
have looked over the faq, but I couldn't find anything there that
looks like it would work. Does anybody have any suggestions?

thanks in advance,

Lael
