Preliminary Call for Papers

International Workshop on Constraints for Graphics and Visualization
--------------------------------------------------------------------

In conjunction with
International Conference on Principles and Practice of Constraint Programming,
CP95

Cassis, France
September 18, 1995

Deadline for Submission: July 5, 1995

Graphics and visualization are prominent application domains of constraint systems. This
workshop aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners to access the state of the
art in this field and discuss future research directions. The workshop will be one day long,
and will take place in the same location as the main conference. The technical program
includes two invited talks by leaders in the area, a panel discussion, and presentations of
contributed papers. Facilities will be available for presenting audio-visual material.

Topics of Interest include:

* Constraint-based graphical user interfaces in databases, AI, human-computer
interaction, graph drawing, software engineering, hardware design, and
   multimedia.
* Programming environments for constraint-based graphics and visualization.
   Algorithms for constraint-based graphics.
* Characterization of important classes of constraints in graphics and visualization,
   and complexity of solving.
* Approaches to underconstrained/overconstrained systems of constraints (e.g.,
   constraint hierarchies).
* Formal specification of constraint-based visual languages for automatic or
   user-defined visualization.
* Constraint-based techniques for interactive graphics.
* Declarative and/or visual methods for 2D and 3D visualization and animation.

Submission

Authors are invited to submit electronically papers (in English, at most 18 pages) or short
papers (in English, at most 8 pages). Simultaneous submission to other conferences or
journals is not allowed. In addition to papers describing original research work, surveys
and position papers are sought. Submissions should be in the form of a single uuencoded
compressed PostScript file sent by email to ifc@cs.brown.edu, accompanied by a separate
email message with the following information on the paper: title, kind of submission,
author(s), affiliation(s), and address of the contact author. Please make sure that your
PostScript file can be previewed with Ghostview and is printable on a standard PostScript
printer. If electronic submission is not possible, please contact one of the chairs to make
special arrangements, at least one week before the deadline.

Important Dates

Submissions: July 5, 1995
Notification of acceptance: August 15, 1995
