The Collaborative Research Centre for Intelligent Decision Systems
in conjunction with the Constraint Logic Programming group from the
University of Melbourne, invite applications for a Research Programmer
position in the area of CONSTRAINT-BASED SCHEDULING.

You will be involved in a collaborative project with a major multi-national
computer firm to develop a scheduling engine which will form the basis of
an application for the semi-automation of preventive and opportunistic
maintenance scheduling. The project aims to extend the very limited base of
algorithmic power that exists in many current constraint programming systems
while preserving the development flexibility of the constraint-based paradigm.

You will take a major role in the implementation and design of the scheduling
engine and will work closely with the University of Melbourne's world-leading
CLP research group.

You will have an excellent computing and/or mathematical background and
experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous
    * operations research methods for planning, scheduling and/or resource
      allocations problems
    * applications of constraint programming
    * constraint logic programming
    * linear programming

Solid experience in C/C++ programming in a Unix environment is also required.

Salary: $28,994 - $33,306 p.a. (HEW Level 5)

Applications close: 18 November 1994

Reference number : Y0001758
