i also see freedom as having central importance.  happiness is just a 
guide,  telling about what we have found.  it might be better to say that
we seek things that make us happy, not happiness per se.
  the indians have a great tradition of seeking happiness, one 
interesting summary of the wants of man that i have heard is that we want
and infinite amount of existence, joy, and wisdom.  To stop our quest
would be to limit ourselves.
