A two day Basic Research Symposium will be held on the Saturday and Sunday
preceding the main CHI 96 conference. The goal of the Symposium is to provide
an interactive forum to promote and enhance scientific discussions of developing
research issues.

The Symposium will provide both an opportunity for feedback on one's research
ideas, as well as a chance to learn about the variety of perspectives present
in the international research community. The Symposium is designed to stress
research and interaction among the attendees and to promote understanding,
asking of questions and dialogue between fellow researchers as well as reflection
on methods and results.

Contributions are invited from any active area of HCI research. The Symposium
attains its vibrancy from the wide range of disciplines represented and the
critical but informal interchanges between them.

Invitation to the Symposium will be based on a two page position paper.
Submissions should represent the participants' current work. The registration
fee for participating in the symposium is $100. Participants need not register
for the main conference. As with CHI 96 workshops, a registration form for the
Research Symposium will be provided upon acceptance.

Deadline for submissions: 1st February 1996
