JOBS AVAILABLE
                   INSTITUTE FOR PERCEPTION RESEARCH
                      EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS

General
-------
In the Institute for Perception Research (IPO), Philips Research and
the Eindhoven University of Technology have a close collaboration. The
essence of the research programme is: how do humans assess information,
especially in interaction with hardware and software. The study of this
topic has a fundamental as well as an applied component. As a
consequence of the involvement of humans with technology, the study has
a strong interdisciplinary character. Actual themes include: perceptual
sound quality, language generation, speech synthesis, perceptual image
quality, interactive instruction, multimodal communication, information
ergonomics and communication resources.

IPO will participate in a European research project of which the
main objective is to integrate and further develop the enabling
technologies required for the design of speech operated human-machine
interfaces, for applications inside the automobile. Demonstrator
systems will be developed for the languages German and French, which
will be tested in the laboratory as well as in the car. IPO will
participate in the project with two researchers, one for dialogue
management and one for spoken language generation. The first job
is planned for the full project period of 39 months, the second
job will start about 6 months after the start of the project and is
planned for 30 months. The project is expected to start in November
1995.
