WHAT are they...?
They are on the verge of invading the distributed applications, to run on 
clients as well as on servers, to help, sort, filter and find out.
They are already in the terminology of many professionals, in 
telecommunications notably.
Many conferences are organized about them, trying to clarify the concept.
I believe they are the mutation of AI good old Expert Systems whose genes 
where diluted by the overwhelming wave of open systems and desktop computing.
Their shape has the modularity of Object Orientation, their intelligence is 
rule-based, their communication system is client-server.

If you have seen an Intelligent Agent somewhere, please reply to this mail and 
describe the phenomenon.
A few lines : Platform it was seen running on, system it was using, 
application it was invading, technology used. Gathering data about those 
invaders will help to know them better, let's file them.
