                            Call For Participation

           8th International Workshop on Natural Language Generation
                                13-15 June 1996
                           Herstmonceux, Sussex, UK

INLG-96 is the eighth international workshop on Natural Language Generation.
Recent workshops have been held at Catalina Island, California (1988), Dawson,
Pennsylvania (1990), Levico, Italy (1992) and Kennebunkport, Maine (1994). In
keeping with the tradition of these workshops, the venue for INLG-96 will
provide a pleasant and relaxing setting for stimulating discussion and exchange
of ideas.

We actively solicit submissions of papers, posters, panels and demos on all
aspects of natural language generation, including the following areas of
research:

   *  content selection
   *  text planning
   *  realisation
   *  lexical choice
   *  system architecture
   *  multilingual or multi-modal generation
   *  applications
   *  learning methods
   *  evaluation

...as well as relevant aspects of other areas as they relate to problems of
natural language generation, such as:

   *  grammar theory
   *  statistical methods
   *  speech synthesis
   *  psycholinguistics
   *  neuroscience
   *  philosophy

REGISTRATION

To register for attendance please send, by 8th May 1996, your name, contact
information (address, phone, fax, and email), and a statement of your interests
in generation (between two paragraphs and a page, which will be used to help
plan the meeting's events) to the address given below.

The facilities at the workshop venue dictate that attendance be limited to
approximately 70 participants. Should more people wish to attend than can be
accommodated, attendance will be on a first come first served basis after
preference has been given to those who submitted papers.

SUBMISSION DETAILS

Submissions for full papers may be up to 10 pages long (including title and
references). Shorter poster submissions are encouraged for work that is not yet
mature. Submissions for demos and panels are also welcome. All submissions
should be produced in two column format with 1 inch margins using 11 point
type.

The title page should include complete addresses for the authors (including
email and fax), a short summary of less than 200 words, subject keywords
(preferably taken from the list given above), and a clear indication of the
type of submission (paper, poster, panel or demo). Papers with several authors
should indicate who is to handle correspondence.

Authors should send four hard copies of their submission, printed on 8.5"xll"
or A4 paper (double-sided if possible). An additional ascii copy of the title
page should be sent by email. The contact address is:
