A new mailing list has been set up to discuss possible
approaches to the Loebner Prize competition. In the past,
the competition has been a (very) restricted Turing test,
but in 1995, competition organizers plan to run an open
test, with no topic or time restrictions. When a
computer can pass the unrestricted test, the grand prize of
$100,000 will be awarded, and the contest will be discontinued.

The purpose of this list is not to discuss the philosophical
aspects of the Turing test, but instead to share and to compare
different strategies for passing it.

Official rules for the Loebner prize competition may be obtained
via email by sending a message to "loebner@coyote.csusm.edu"
with the words "send filename" in the subject of the message.
The files that can be requested are:

        info-letter (a short introduction)
order-form (an order form for transcripts and diskettes)
press-release (a press release about the 1994 competition)
        official-rules (official rules and application)
technical-notes (technical notes for the contest)
all (all of the above documents)

All this information will eventually be available
