Someone else hopefully can help out with the details, but I vaguely 
remember there being public artwork on World Wide Web which is controlled
by genetic algorithm.  There are equations controlling the pattern,
colors, etc, coded as a "chromosome," mutations are created, you decide
which ones look the best, and they are used to create the next generation,
etc.
