Dylan Thomas died of acute alcohol intoxication. The brain is
sensitive to alcohol from the outside in, with the last parts
to stop functioning being the brainstem and its control of  respiration.
This is very roughly the equivalent of shorting out the clock
crystal on a computer. 

Your conclusion that brains and minds are distinct seems less than
rigorous. Have you ever seen a disembodied mind?
