It does seem that television has focused most people's minds on "the crisis
of the moment", whatever that might be.  

The point I was trying to make was that if you want something to be 
pessimistic about, don't focus on the things that are getting better,
focus instead on the things that are getting worse (which in our
country means the accelerating erosion of our freedoms).

BTW: (not directed at you, Hans) Republican I most certainly aint.
