I have made substantial additions and revisions to the
comp.ai.neural-nets FAQ, which is available as a hypertext document,
readable by any WWW (World Wide Web) browser such as Mosaic, under the
URL "ftp://ftp.sas.com/pub/neural/FAQ.html". This version is updated
more frequently than the archived copies.

A list of significant changes to the FAQ appears in the weekly
reminder posted to comp.ai.neural-nets.

The answers that have been added or revised since the last time the
FAQ was posted are as follows:

Part 1: Introduction
--- What is a neural network (NN)? (revised)
--- What can you do with an NN and what not? (revised)
--- Who is concerned with NNs? (revised)
New How are layers counted?

Part 2: Learning
--- What is backprop? (revised)
New What are conjugate gradients, Levenberg-Marquardt, etc.?
--- Why use a bias input? (revised)
--- Why use activation functions? (revised)
New What is a softmax activation function?
--- What is overfitting and how can I avoid it? (revised)
--- How many hidden units should I use? (revised)
New How can generalization error be estimated?
New What are cross-validation and bootstrapping?
New Should I normalize/standardize/rescale the data?
New What is ART?
New What is PNN?
New What is GRNN?
--- What about Fuzzy Logic? (revised)

Part 3: Information resources
--- Good literature about Neural Networks? (revised)
--- The most important conferences concerned with Neural Networks? (revised)
--- Other sources of information about NNs? (revised)
