Re my original message, I have been unable to locate any recent
work by Armand de Callatay of IBM Europe, but Edelman & co. are
flourishing.

I came across a couple more recent references: (these guys have been
busy!)

Olaf Sporns & Giulio Tononi eds. "Selectionism and the Brain".
International Review of Neurobiology Vol 37, Academic Press 1994.

Olaf Sporns, Giulio Tononi, and Gerald M. Edelman. "Neural Models of
Cortical Integration" in "Functional Neuroimaging" Academic Press
1994.

If there are any Japanese readers of this news group, I cannot
recommend too strongly that you make your company aware of this
research, and if possible get them to fund the research itself at
Scripps, Rockefeller, Max-Planck etc.
