SIGNAL PROCESSING / NEURAL NETWORK RESEARCHER WANTED

Synaptics, Inc., located in northern San Jose, California, is a small,
growing company that specializes in creating human interface products using
mixed-signal ASICs and neural networks. Our first commercial products
are the TouchPad, which is a touch input device for laptop computers;
and a software handwriting recognition system. Synaptics was founded in
1986 by Federico Faggin and Carver Mead.

There is an opening at Synaptics for a signal processing / neural network
researcher. The researcher will be part of a team that will create the next
generation touch sensor for Synaptics. Specifically, the researcher will
use signal processing / neural network algorithms to add features and
increase performance of the touch sensor. The researcher will work closely
with material science researchers. In the future, the programmer will work
on other neural network software applications.

Applications should be interdisciplinary and have a strong background
in programming. We need someone who has created large programs
using C/C++ under UNIX. 2-5 years of industrial programming experience is
necessary. Applicants should have real-world experience in either
neural networks or image/signal processing algorithms such as filtering,
numerical optimization, etc. It is desirable that an applicant has hands-on
lab experience with hardware/software systems.

Applicants should have a B.S. degree in Computer Science, or a related field.
An M.S. degree is desirable, having a Ph.D. degree is a plus. Fluency
in reading, writing, and speaking Mandarin Chinese is a plus, as is
experience in Windows application programming.
