There has been a fair amount of work on NNs for musical applications. A
good starting place might be Computer Music Journal volume 13, numbers 3
and 4 (1989), although these could be outdated already in this fast
moving field.

Here are some other references.

Connection Science 6(2-3) (1994) special for connectionist models of
musical structure.

"ANNs in Music Research" by M. Leman in "Computer Representations and
Models in Music" by A. Marsden and A. Pople (eds.), (1992)

The last few "Proc. of Int. Computer Music Conf." have papers discussing
applications of NNs in computer music.

Hope this helps.

Simon
