GP is nonsense?  It seems to me that GP has the best chance of allowing
us to evolve really complex behavior.  I'm not a big fan of the LISP
trees version but that's only one application of GP.  GA's have the 
disadvantage of a carefull planned gene structure.  Then it's more
difficult to evolve solutions not imagined by the designer.

GP's are the future, not a dead end.  In ten years we'll all be blown
away by what GP's have accomplished.
