It looks like an Artificial Society of Mind (tm) model.  It seems
based on Marvin Minsky's "Society of Mind" model of human intelligence.

He researches and teaches at MIT. Check out their web page, find his
page, and see what he's published on it lately. I'm not sure the model
is vogue anymore.
