About the Workshop
------------------

The Workshop on Soft Computing will be organised as part of the Fourth
International Conference for Young Computer Scientists (ICYCS'95)
to be held from 18 to 21 July 1995 at Xi Jiao Hotel in Beijing, P.R. China.
ICYCS is a bi-annual conference series sponsored by Chinese Computer Federation
and co-sponsored by many other professional organisations in and outside China.
This is the first time ICYCS has included a special workshop in its programme.

Scope of the Workshop
---------------------

Soft computing is an emerging new concept used to describe research and
development in exploiting the tolerance for imprecision and uncertainty in
order to achieve tractability, robustness, low cost, and high machine
intelligence in practical applications. It includes such areas as
genetic algorithms, neural networks, fuzzy logic and probabilistic reasoning.
Topics of interest to this workshop include, but are not limited to:

Evolutionary Learning Evolutionary Optimisation
Artificial Neural Networks Autonomous Intelligent Systems
Probabilistic Reasoning Fuzzy Systems
Adaptive Behaviours Machine Learning
Hybrid Systems Distributed Artificial Intelligence
Robotics Various Applications

Paper Submission
----------------

Four hard copies of full paper should be received by the workshop chair before
or on *10 April 1995*. All papers must be printed on 8.5inch x 11inch or A4
paper using 11 point Times. The margin along all four sides should be at least
20mm. The length of submitted papers must be no more than 6 single-spaced,
single-column pages including all figures, tables, and bibliography. Papers
not conforming to the above requirements may be rejected without review.
Electronic submissions in LaTeX or Postscript are acceptable. Late submission
might be considered depending on time constraint. Send all paper submissions to:

Dr Xin Yao
Soft Computing Workshop Chair
Department of Computer Science

Publication of Papers
---------------------

All accepted papers will be published in the workshop Proceedings, which is
separate from the conference proceedings. Authors are expected to present their
papers at the workshop personally. A special issue of Chinese Journal of
Advanced Software Research (Published in English by Allerton Press Inc., New
York) will be organised in January 1996 based on the presented papers at the
workshop. Unpresented papers will not be considered for journal publication.

Important Dates
---------------

10 April 1995 Deadline for Paper Submission
8 May 1995 Notification of Acceptance/Rejection
9 June 1995 Deadline for Camera Ready Copy
20 July 1995 Workshop
