About Me

I am a graduate student in the Computation, Organizations & Society program at Carnegie Mellon University. I received my BA in sociology from UC Berkeley, and I was previously a MA student in the Interdisciplinary Computer Science program at Mills College. In 2007, I was a Research Scientist in the Computer Science department at North Carolina State University. My work there focused on privacy-related issues and legal compliance in software systems as well as biometrics and digital identities.

My research interests revolve around information: how it can be obtained, processed, and used as well as the social implications of these uses. More specifically, my research to date has touched on topics such as privacy, social software, and social networks.

Currently, I'm being supported by a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship. In the spring of 2006, I was presented with the Helen Pillans Award for Excellence in Computer Science. I have also had the honor of being a two-time participant in the Distributed Mentor Project. In 2005, I worked with Annie Antón at North Carolina State University on projects related to privacy and security issues. One of my projects there led to a co-authored paper that was presented at the 4th IEEE International Information Assurance Workshop. In 2006, I worked with Kristina Lerman at the Information Sciences Institute on a project involving the popular photo-sharing site Flickr. This work resulted in a paper that was presented at the International Conference on Weblogs and Social Media.
