I am a graduate student in the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University (since Fall 2003). My advisor is Chris Olston. I am a member of the CMU database group.

From Feb 2006 to Aug 2007 I was an intern at Yahoo! Research, Santa Clara. There I got the opportunity of working with some wonderful researchers on some wonderful projects (besides drinking free coffee, and playing foosball and ping pong in Yahoo! Cafe).

Before coming to CMU, I was an undergraduate student at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

Research:

I am interested in Information Mediation, with an emphasis on search engines. I work on several key tasks that search engines perform such as Web Crawling and Monitoring, Web Ranking and Search Advertising. Also, I study the exploration vs. exploitation tradeoff that arise in many of these tasks using the Multi-armed Bandit problem.
