Poster Printing

About

  • SCS Operations provides help with poster print requests to the poster printer named Platinum. Printing is available by request to all members of the School of Computer Science.

    Print Request Procedure

  • Before printing contact Operations via phone. The operator on duty will need the following:
    • Application used to create the poster
    • CS user name the job will print under
    • Size of the poster (Standard poster size is 36W x 48H inches. A larger format of 42 inch width is available upon request.)
    • Callback phone number
  • The details of the print job will be checked and any changes to the formating would be determined at that time. The average print job takes 10 minutes to print and 30 minutes to dry.

    Picking up Poster

  • Posters can be picked up at the Help Desk during normal business hours as shown below. During non business hours posters can be picked up at SCS Operations.

    Printing Tips

    • When designing in PowerPoint or similar application, never "Copy and Paste" image graphics into your file. Always "Insert as Picture".
    • The printer does not print to the edge of the paper. Please remember to leave margins of at least 0.5" on each side of the print job. It can also be alleviated by choosing scale to fit.
    • Linux machines require the user to convert the poster to post script before printing. The print dialog box will have the option to choose postscript level 3.

    Platinum Specifications (HP DesignJet 4000N)

    Note

    • The price per poster equates to $15 each print and does not include the time and labor to process. The goal of this service is to utilize School of Computer Science resources appropriately.

    • Printing on weekends is available by special request only. Send e-mail to help@cs.cmu.edu
