We've developed a fully autonomous version of the gigapan for doing high resolution time-lapse imaging.  One early version Gigapan device has been capturing high-resolution panoramas in a backyard every hour for over a year. Combining time-lapse with gigapixel panoramas allows exploration not only in space but also in time. Explore the panorama, find a bird's nest, and zoom backwards in time to see the nest being built.

We believe that high-resolution time-lapse imaging has the potential for both educational and scientific use.  In 2007, we plan to install robust, all-weather units like the one pictured above in nature preserves and other places of scientific and ecological interest.
