About Erik

I am a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Institute for Software Research at Carnegie Mellon University, where I work with Jim Herbsleb and his research group. My goal as a researcher is to design tools and practices that help people engaged in technical work build and sustain productive relationships. My research intersects software engineering and human-computer interaction (HCI). It draws from social computing, computer-supported cooperative work, and the cooperative and human aspects of software engineering.

I earned my Ph.D. degree in Information and Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine under the supervision of David Redmiles. During that time, I was affiliated with the Collaboration Research in Action, Design, and Learning (CRADL) lab. In the summer of 2009, I interned with the Community Information Management (CIM) group at Microsoft Research, Silicon Valley. Before graduate school, I worked as a developer of investor education and e-learning online courses.
