Sponsored by the School of Computer Science to recognize outstanding work by our graduates. The first prize is $1,000 for a single winner, or $500 each for co-winners. Any PhD thesis which resulted in a degree conferred by the School of Computer Science is eligible for consideration.
Theses of students who graduated in August 2006, December 2006, and May 2007 are eligible for nomination for either award. The procedure for nominating a thesis is the same in each case. The nomination must be submitted by the faculty advisor by no later than JULY 1, and must include:
Please indicate whether the nomination is for the ACM award, the SCS award, or both. The two nominations sets intersect, but must not necessarily be the same. Moreover, the dissertation chosen for the SCS Distinguished Dissertation Award may not necessarily be chosen to be one of the two chosen as Carnegie Mellon's two nominations to ACM.
The selections will be made by committee. Both dissertation and letter(s) must be submitted to Sharon Burks by JULY 1 to provide the committee with time to make evaluations and decisions before the ACM's submission deadline. Please consult Sharon if you have any questions concerning eligibility.
This is an excellent opportunity to promote high quality research and enhance our reputation for high standards. Get those nominations rolling in!
