15-829B Internet-Scale Sensor Systems: Design and Policy
Instructor: Srini Seshan / Adrian Perrig
SPRING 2003
Description:
This course is a project-oriented graduate-level class. The course will start
with background information on sensor networks applications to introduce students
to the technical and social challenges. Students will select projects to work
on for the rest of the semester. We plan on using 2/3 of the course time to
teach technical topics and 1/3 to cover privacy and policy issues. The technical
issues covered will include a broad range of topics and will include coverage
of networking, operating systems, distributed systems, databases, sensor data
processing (e.g. image processing), and sensor hardware.
Groups of students will be required to propose and implement a novel sensor-based application. In addition to the technical challenges of building this service, students will be forced to deal with the real world issues of privacy and policy. Each project group will be required to implement mechanisms to handle the privacy issues of their application.
